THE NFL DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS - ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT ... PLUS, A COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL WRAP-UP WITH THE GAME-BY-GAME RESULTS AND MORE

We interrupt your sports week to let you know the following as we head towards this weekend's NFL Divisional Playoffs:

Only one of the eight teams involved in the Saturday / Sunday games - and that would be the Kansas City Chiefs - won a playoff game last year (a convincing 31-13 triumph over 4-point underdog Indianapolis in the 2018 AFC Divisional Playoff round) and only Baltimore, Houston, Seattle and the aforementioned Chiefs even made it to the post-season last year and is back this year.

In other words, the NFL Playoffs times are a changin'!

Three of last year's four conference championship teams - New Orleans and the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC; New England in the AFC - already are out of the proverbial picture as we head into the second weekend in January and so this "new blood" theme could get nutty as in what do you think about AFC #4 seed Houston possibly hosting the conference championship game on Jan. 19th or perhaps NFC #5 seed Seattle could win Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay - thus winning back-to-back playoff road games - and then get to host the NFC Championship Game on the 19th. Could happen.
In the meantime, digest these up-to-date pointspread figures compiled from the regular season and the just-completed NFL Wild Card Round:

  • NFL Betting Favorites are 116-133-8 ATS (against the spread) with 3 Pick 'Em games in the mix (a .466 winning rate for chalk sides)
  • NFL Home Teams are 108-144-8 ATS this year (and that's a lowly .429 winning percentage)
  • Finally, NFL "Over" sides are 128-130-2 against the odds (a .496 winning rate)
