COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S ELITES ARE ON CENTER STAGE THIS WEEKEND AS #1 CLEMSON AND #5 OHIO STATE ARE HEAVY-DUTY BETTING FAVORITES (SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW!) ...

PLUS, NFL WEEK 4 NEWS / NOTES: EAGLES WIN "S.O.S." GAME OVER PACKERS 34-27 AS THE JIM HURLEY NETWORK WINS AGAIN!

In yesterday's edition of Jim Sez, we talked about how this was an early-in-the-year S.O.S. (Save Our Season) game for the Philadelphia Eagles in Green Bay ... mission accomplished!

The Eagles rescued this here-and-now season with a gritty 34-27 win against 3.5-point home favorite Green Bay as Philly QB Carson Wentz aired three scoring strikes and the oft-overmatched Birds' defense made a bevy of red zone stops against Aaron Rodgers and Company.

Rodgers wound up throwing for 422 yards with two TDs but it was his move-the-chain runs (see team-leading 46 yards rushing on five carries) that had Philly's defense dazed and confused. Still, with an uber-tough sked straight ahead, Doug Pederson's club needed this prime-timer badly and they got it. Cha-ching!

In other NFL Week 4-related News / Notes ...
The Eagles were one of just three NFL teams to have entered Week 4 without a pointspread win - see the Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins for Exhibit B and Exhibit C - but a Philadelphia team that's now covered 13 of its last 21 away games maybe gives hope to the Bolts and Fish this Sunday ...

Did you know that we exited last night's aforementioned game with NFL Home Teams a rotten 16-33-0 ATS so far this year? Believe it or not, Home Teams are 5-11-0, 5-11-0, 6-10-0 and now 0-1-0 spreadwise in the NFL as we dig into Sunday's sked ...

Finally, here's an update on the NFL's first-year head coach this year: Arizona's Kliff Kingsbury, Cincinnati's Zac Taylor, Cleveland's Freddie Kitchens, Denver's Vic Fangio, Green Bay's Matt LaFleur, Miami's Brian Flores, the New York Jets' Adam Gase and Tampa Bay's Bruce Arians are a composite 11-14 against the odds so far (that's a .440 winning rate) with the Packers' LaFleur now 3-1 against the number.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND QUICK-HITTERS

Let's zip around the College Football landscape and get you some Saturday preview goodies involving ranked teams:

#1 CLEMSON (4-0) at NORTH CAROLINA (2-2) - 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC
How high will this Las Vegas line go? The top-ranked / defending national champion Clemson Tigers opened as 24.5-point favs for this ACC tilt and it's been bet up to 27 points in most locales ... and no need to wonder why: Dabo Swinney's squad ranks 14th on offense and 7th on defense nationally and the Tigers already have scored 40+ points three different times even though QB Trevor Lawrence (925 yards passing with 7 TDs and 5 INTs) has been average at best.
Spread Note - Clemson's a delicious 15-6-1 ATS (against the spread) overall while dating back to the mid-to-late part of the 2017 season.

#5 OHIO STATE (4-0) at NEBRASKA (3-1) - 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Buckeye Nation is havin' a good ole time of it so far here in 2019: The Big 10 brutes are averaging a whopping 53.5 points per game behind transfer QB Justin Fields (see 69.5 percent completions with 880 passing yards and 13 TDs / 0 INTs) and now they're a hefty 17-point road fav in Lincoln (price opened at - 14 points). If Fields has Ohio State backers tickled pink, then what about a defense that currently ranks second in the land and has yielded only one touchdown the past three weeks? Maybe Big Red QB Adrian Martinez - he's accounted for 10 total TDs thus far - will make the roadsters sweat a bit here. Stay tuned.
Spread Note - The O-State Buckeyes are seeking their first four-game-or-longer pointspread winning streak since the very start of the 2016 season. Overall, the 'Eyes are 9-5-1 spreadwise the past two-plus seasons.

#18 VIRGINIA (4-0) at #10 NOTRE DAME (2-1) - 3:30 p.m. ET, NBC
Gotta admit we're scratching our head as to whether or not Notre Dame looked like a Top 10 team in last week's 23-17 loss-but-cover at 15.5-point favorite Georgia ... QB Ian Book was picked off twice and made some silly throws but he did find a go-to pass-catcher in TE Cole Kmet who snagged nine receptions for 108 yards and a score. If 12.5-point pup Virginia (the line opened at ND - 11.5 points) believes in momentum, then the Cavs could keep it close after they roared back from a 17-0 deficit against Old Dominion last weekend and no doubt do-it-all QB Bryce Perkins didn't enjoy his finest game.
Spread Note - In its last dozen games as double-digit betting favorites, Notre Dame is an ugly 3-8-1 versus the vig.

#21 USC (3-1) at #17 WASHINGTON (3-1)— 3:30 p.m. ET, Fox
Here's the lowdown on USC's quarterbacks: They're already on to a third-stringer these days named Matt Fink who rescued the Trojans' teetering season with last week's 30-23 win against 3.5-point fav Utah (see 21-of-30 passing for 351 yards and 3 TDs) but now SC must venture to the great northwest where Washington's starting to hit its stride following back-to-back wins / covers versus Hawaii and BYU. The number's gone up a single point - from Huskies minus 9.5 points to 10.5 points - and keep in mind USC sports the 90th-ranked "D" in the land (ugh!) and must go against hot-hot-hot transfer QB Jacob Eason (1,063 yards passing with 10 TDs / 2 INTs).
Spread Note - Washington has covered just three of its last 11 conference games and that includes the 20-19 loss as two-TD betting favs versus Cal back on Sept. 7th.
