(Friday 8/26 – Sunday 8/28)

NOTE: As the final weeks of the meet approach a number of these horses will not race back at Saratoga. However, a large percentage of them will run at Belmont. You should also check the Monmouth entries as well as the likes of Delaware. We will mention in the TRIP NOTES below if we believe a horsed will be possible at multiple locations.

Friday, August 26
(Races 1-3 over muddy sealed main track…races 4-6 over good main track – races 2, 4 & 6 off turf…races 7, 10 and 11 run on fast main track – race 11 off turf…races 8 & 9 run over yielding turf.)

TONY TOOLS – Sudden switch from turf to muddy main track resulted in big form switch. In her only other start (on turf) the juvenile MSW filly was pinched at the start and never got involved. Now at 7 furlongs the NYSB miss was scrubbed on hard from the start, secured inside position in mid-pack and halfway down the lane angled 5 wide to get the place. Breaks maiden soon.

DEUCES HIGH – Lightly raced NYSB 3-year old broke maiden in debut and in next to last was caught 4 wide on both turns at Finger Lakes in 150K Stakes. Back in vs entry level allowance foes at 9 furlongs in most recent the Giant’s Causeway colt set the pace out of the gate, held it to deep stretch and grudgingly gave way late while holding place honors 4 lengths clear of the even money favorite. Should love a one turn 8 1/2 or 9 furlong test at Belmont.

ARTHUR AVENUE – In career start number three in race washed from the turf to fast main track at 9 furlongs he raced three wide on both turns, fought for the lead rivals from mid-stretch to the sixteenth pole, fell off the winner but dug in to hold the place, Also was first since early June so he will move forward and break maiden vs NYSB rivals next time.

Saturday, August 27
(Turf Firm – Main Track Fast Throughout)

MO TOWN – No surprise that a son of sharp young sire Uncle Mo would turn in a big debut performance. The MSW juvenile was bumped hard at the start then bumped twice more in the first quarter mile. He advanced four wide into the stretch ran alongside the favored winner to inside the furlong marker and held the place. Won’t be a maiden long.

CERRO – In his 36th career start (9-5-7) the 6-year old gelding flashed sharp speed early in the 6 ½ furlong second level allowance/optional 62.5K claimer. He wilted a bit late and still held the show spot. He was also haltered for the 5th time from his last 6 races by new conditioner Michael Maker. In an open 50K level claimer he’ll win right back.

Sunday, August 28
(Turf Firm – Main Track Fast Throughout)

DOINWHATSHELIKES – The 5 time winner shipped in from Monmouth for 7 furlong test vs 50K starter allowance rivals and was caught four to five wide early on, three wide through the turn and moved four wide at the quarter pole. She held her ground through the lane and got the show purse while less than 2 lengths off the winner. She’ll win again soon.

SOGLIO – The Scat daddy colt broke a step slow, settled on the outside near the back, moved up in the four path on the far turn, was 6 wide into the lane and continued to progress inside the furlong marker to just miss the place. It was the debut for the juvenile colt and from the outside at a mile and a sixteenth on turf. Solid effort indicates MSW ranks are left behind next time.

Friday 8/26
WIN $8.30 – Not only was this veteran NYSB Stakes runner wheeling back in 7 days after facing rivals in the open Grade I Fourstardave but he had set the pace in that race to inside the sixteenth pole and strode out well. The drop in class off a trip that appeared to take little out of him put the buy sign on him.

Friday 8/26
– With race coming off turf and switched to main track in the offing the speed shown in 1 1/6th mile turf test in his prior made the 7 furlong test and foundation a solid edge at 7 furlongs. The son of Frost Giant was also moving from open MSW rivals in his prior to restricted NYSB opponents. He pressed just off the pace and swept to a daylight win.

Friday 8/26
– In first try in almost 19 months the MSW gelding flashed terrific speed vs open 40K maiden claimers and was caught about 50 yards out while clear of the show horse in the 1 1/16th mile turf test. Encouraged by the effort the connections sent him back to MSW level but from open into restricted NYSB ranks. He settled off the lead, moved when asked and drew clear.

Saturday 8/27
ARROGATE – WIN $25.40 -
You read that right...John DaSilva tabbed ARROGATE on top to WIN THE TRAVERS. The Bob Baffert colt showed he was fresh fit and improving big time in his last three races AND in winning the two allowance races that got him here he first went right to the lead and never looked back and in his most recent was a step slow pout of the gate yet rated kindly before moving to the lead. John looked at his 6 furlong drill at Del mar before shipping, re watched the two previous wins and knew that this colt not only had early quickness but his last two races he also had his best speed figures in the final quarter miles. ARROGATE did everything John believed he would and WHAT A PAYOUT!

Saturday 8/27 – SUMMER REVOLUTION – Bad start and rushed up to close 4th in Grade I King’s Bishop…still has second level allowance eligibility.

Sunday 8/28 – LITTLEMISSBUSINESS – WIN $8.10
