(Monday 8/22 – Thursday 8/25)
NOTE: As the final weeks of the meet approach a number of these horses will not race back at Saratoga. However, a large percentage of them will run at Belmont. You should also check the Monmouth entries as well as the likes of Delaware. We will mention in the TRIP NOTES below if we believe a horsed will be possible at multiple locations.
Monday, August 22
(Turf Courses Good Throughout – Main Track Good Race 3 And Fast For Remaining)
DANCETRACK – The Bill Mott Colt shipped in from a second level allowance win at Suffolk in his first NA start. Moved up to third level allowance/optional 80K claimers he raced on the rail for the first 6 furlongs of the mile turf. He moved out in the stretch and was steadied behind a wall of rivals, moved further out and finished a nose short in a three horse blanket finish. Good enough to win an overnight stakes.
Wednesday, August 24
(Turf Firm – Main Track Fast)
BEE NOTEWORTHY – The 4-year old filly made her second start following a 15 month break and only the fourth of her career in 6 furlong 16K claimer. She has had problems but looks to finally be healthy and the way she controlled the race from start to finish indicates she can take a class hike and win back vs NW3L open claimers.
ZOOT SUIT – The GP shipper made his first start since mid-March in 40K 5 ½ furlong turf dash. He went out early to challenge in 5 horse scrum in the NW2L affair, was jostled about repeatedly, continued to battle for the lead and weakened in the final furlong. He definitely needed the race and was claimed by sharp trainer Chris Englehart. Look for the 3-year old to eclipse this level soon.
TOSHIRO – Despite being from the sharp early prep Graham Motion barn this 2-year old MSW turf sprinter was ignored at the windows in his debut. He took command and edged away to the eighth pole, was collared in the final strides while holding the place honors.
PROPER FREUD – NYSB second level restricted allowance/optional 40K claimer shipped in from PARX in fine form and battled for the lead throughout the 6 ½ furlong test. He hung tough until the 5/16ths marker, battled outside the duo he’d fought with from the start and just missed as he claimed place honors. He was haltered by sharp win-off-the-buy trainer David Jacobson so come back to him.
Thursday, August 25
(Turf Firm Throughout – Main Track Fast Races 2 & 4…Good Remainder)
PAZ THE WINE – Yet another Graham Motion debut runner well-prepped but much troubled in the juvenile MSW 5 ½ furlong turf try. Was in position early angled four wide into the stretch, got steadied after bumping with the winner twice, outside and then inside the furlong marker, waited for an opening and moved further out before flattening. For all that was only a 2 lengths beaten 4th. Breaks through next time.
TAHOE TIGRESS – After an oh-for 2015 draught the 7-year old mare seems to be regaining form now that she is entered at a reasonable level. Two back she rallied to beat 20K claimers at 7 panels and in most recent went 6 ½ vs 25K restricted NYSB foes. She made up 4 lengths in the lane and fell less than a length short while 4 clear of the show runner. She was also taken by Rudy Rodriguez who is sharp off the claim. Look for her to get her 9th career win soon.
