NATIONAL RACE MASTERS SARATOGA TRIP NOTES
(Monday 8/1 - Wednesday 8/3)
Monday, August 1
(Races Off The Turf - Main Track Sloppy And Sealed)
Race 2 - BRIMSTONE - After the race was washed from the turf to a mile and an eight on the main track trainer John Terranova kept this one in. The gelding wired the NYSB entry level allowance and is now 3-2-00 on a sloppy main oval and 3-1-10 on fast dirt. The conditioner might keep him on dirt for the second level try.
Race 6 - LIFE IN SHAMBLES - The Steve Asmussen gelding has found a home sprinting. The second level allowance win was his third straight. One on turf, one on a fast main track and now one in the slop. The Broken Vow gelding is good enough to compete in overnight stakes company.
Race 9 - BARBIE STONES - In second career start and first since September the Bustin Stones filly was away a step slowly in the maiden claiming sprint, waited on the rail and closed well for third when clear. Should move forward off return and blinkers might help.
Wednesday, August 3
(Main Track fast - Turf Courses Good)
Race 2 - LITTLEMISSBUSINESS - Trainer Mitch Friedman dropped the filly from 40K to 20K maiden claimers and she went wire-to-wire to win by 8. She was claimed by Jeremiah Englehart, who had a solid meet last year and has started 5 for 12 this year. She'll win again on the raise.
Race 4 - CATCH YOUR DREAMS - With no pace to run at in 8 ½ furlong turf MSW won by Alabama Bound in wire-to-wire slow time fashion this first time starter did well to close late for the place for Jonathan Sheppard. Well-bred Amuse filly won't be a maiden long.
Race 6 - CLASSIC SALSA - The veteran sprinter hit the gate at the break, was forced 4 wide between rivals don the back, angled out 4 wide into lane and flattened out late. The horse was claimed by Mike Maker for Ken And Sarah Ramsey who are known for quick returns.
Race 8 - MOMAMEAMARIA - The 4-year old filly set a challenged pace at 22-1 in the 100K Shine Again Stakes (7 furlongs) and still had lead after 6 furlongs in 1:09 before being caught late by odds-on Wavell Avenue. Still held place by 5 lengths over good field. She belongs at this level.
