Belmont’s Handicapping Quirks Lead to Profitable Fall Betting Angles

There are many categories of handicapping angles in play at this time of year in New York as summer turns to fall. Horses and horsemen who spent summer far and wide, not only at Saratoga but also at Monmouth and other tracks in the mid-Atlantic region, all return to Belmont for the Fall Championship Meet, which continues the East's highest-quality racing and wagering throughout this season until the end of October.

While it is impossible to mention every Belmont fall handicapping angle in one article, we can focus on some of the best, most effective, and perhaps the most overlooked angles…

PARITY AMONG AUTUMN 3-YEAR OLDS LEADS TO INTRIGUING GRADE 1 PENNSYLVANIA DERBY

When key 3-year old Stakes races are discussed it isn’t often that past graduates of the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby are recollected. And once again in 2018 the race is unlikely before, and after, to get the attention it deserves.

Part of that is due to the time of the season. The Triple Crown is long past, the Haskell has been run, the Travers has had its showcase and even scant interest in possible emerging runners from the Indiana Derby and Ohio Derby has come and gone

There is also an absence of big names. Justify is already getting some pointers from…

JOHN DASILVA TRIPLED UP AT BELMONT ON SUNDAY

As the full stables continue to return from Saratoga and others ship in from around the country, the Belmont Fall Championship Meet is about to take off full stride…and if Sunday’s performance is any indication, so is 19 Year Veteran NY Post Picker John DaSilva.

Yesterday John TRIPLED UP at Belmont as he opened the day with the race 1-2 Daily Double, hit the Race 2 Exacta/Trifecta Cold and then added the Race 8 Exacta/Trifecta Combo to finish a big day with three winners from four released races.

Race 1 – Tale Of Mist – WIN $19.80Race 2 – Malibu Mischief –…

THREE HISTORIC REASONS FOR BETTING OPENING WEEKEND OF BELMONT FALL CHAMPIONSHIP MEET…

PAYOFFS – PAYOFFS – PAYOFFS

From The National Race Masters EditorsWednesday, September 5

Here we go again. Beginning this Friday, September 7, the Belmont Fall Championship Meet for 2018 gets underway with a 3 day weekend.

If history tells us one thing it tells us that this is not only opening weekend but a weekend that “Value Opportunity Horse Players” do not want to miss.

The reason is simple. With barns returning from the Saratoga Meet entering horses on these three opening weekend race cards there are a number of angles worth analyzing.

*Horses that woke up at the Spa after showing so-so form at…

USE SARATOGA TRENDS TO WIN AT THE BELMONT FALL MEET

New York racing once again is ready to move downstate for the start of the Belmont Park Fall Championship Meet, which begins on Friday, Sept. 7 and continues through to October 28.  With 44 stakes races worth over $10 million in purses, there are few race meets on the calendar as important as the Belmont Fall Championship Meet which contains all of New York's key prep races for the Breeders' Cup. Belmont Park also offers top-notch racing day-in-and-day-out all throughout the early fall season.

For the average horseplayer, Belmont can be a better meet than Saratoga, because it is easier to…

14 HORSE FIELD HIGHLIGHTS WIDEST OPEN FINAL ALL-STAKES PICK 4 OF THE SPA MEET

Jim Hurley,Friday, September 1

What a way to usher in the 3 Day Holiday Weekend and close out the 2018 Saratoga Meet.

Last year in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, the invincible Gun Runner chased all but 4 opponents away from the entry box and ran off to a 10 ½ length win at $2.70.

Oh what a difference a year makes. With arguably the two best older division horses sitting this one out (Diversify is training forward after winning the Whitney at Saratoga on August 4 and Accelerate just…

ONCE AGAIN THE TRAVERS STAKES FIELD IS DEEP AND INVITING…TRADITION SAYS TOTE BOARD LIGHTS UP

John ConteFriday, August 24, 2018

Before we even begin previewing the 2018 Travers Stakes why don’t we get one thing out of the way first.

For all my experience. For all my years at the New York Post and Daily Racing Form. For all my years as a multiple Major National Handicapping Contest Winner. For all the accolades I have received, such as an Eclipse Award as Handicapper of the Year and as a featured star of the Esquire TV Show “Horseplayer.” I have never lost track of one thing, the game is about CASHING THE BEST VALUE BETS.

And when it comes…

WITH A HISTORY OF MAJOR UPSETS THIS SATURDAY’S TRAVERS STAKES IS YOUR “MID-SUMMER” CASH COW

Hank GoldbergMonday 8/20

Even if you are a recreational bettor you have heard Saratoga referred to as the “Graveyard of Favorites.” The phrase itself, became an obligatory mantra after Onion pulled his monumental upset of Triple Crown Winner and subsequent legendary all-time champion Secretariat in the 1973 Whitney Stakes.

While this “Graveyard of Favorites” is a bit hyperbolic, there are plenty of stories which will keep the phrase on the tongues of horse players well into the future.

In fact, Onion’s world-class Hall of Fame trainer in H Allen Jerkens, known affectionately as the Chief, was also called by many, the “Giant Killer”…
