It is impossible for the uninformed public to compare shippers from the sandy-fast surface at Monmouth. Bettors struggle to know which horses will successfully switch from the fast Gulfstream surface to the deeper Calder main track. On grass for instance, Belmont shippers that have run on either the tight turn and chute oriented Inner Turf courses or wide turn and longer straight-away configurations must adapt their running styles... some will and some won’t.

Without a working knowledge of the training methods of the top-notch conditioners that compete with each other at this meet a player will struggle for answers. This was a 1 Mile MSW Turf Race for 3-year olds and up. The winner COLLYMORE PLACE had not raced since February when he finished an even 4th on the main track at Fair Grounds. The runner up GRANDSTAND was making the 11th start of his career and 7th on the turf after shipping in from a 6th place finish at CD in his most recent and the third place finisher, favored LASSO, was last seen trying the dirt at Aqueduct after two good previous tries on grass at Belmont.

There are several reasons that we put together the $15.40 WINNER (strong layoff trainer who got a great Palm Meadows work into his runner), $131.40 EXACTA (experienced turf runner that added hustling rider in Joe Bravo) and $351.00 TRIFECTA (completed by a solid speed runner from a strong barn... Kieran McLaughlin ... that figured to last for a piece.) We’re aware that there are always good reasons we release our plays... even when the horses lose. After all it isn’t ONLY GOOD REASONS that WIN RACES... but we do everything we can to ELIMINATE WRONG REASONS and MISINFORMATION, giving you your BEST SHOT EVERY TIME.

WHY WE GET SOLID RESULTS DURING AQUEDUCT’S INNER DIRT MEET

It never ceases to amaze us how many of the supposedly “Sharpest Bettors” desert New York Racing once the action moves to the Inner Dirt Track. Sure the overall quality of the horses goes down a peg. Maybe the bigger bettors feel that there is more opportunity elsewhere. However with these pros somewhat out of the picture the LIVE HORSES THAT OUR TEAM UNCOVERS return even better value.

• Every year a relatively new-to-the-scene trainer or two emerges on the scene to make a name for himself. Will this year be a New York coming out for the likes of Jamie Ness, Gregory Sacco or Jason Servis?
• Every year a journeyman jockey finds his niche while the big names are out of town and a sharp new apprentice takes over. We’ll soon know if Channing Hill finally finds a home, if newcomer Keiber Coa, who has booted home noticeable NY longshots becomes a favored apprentice or if Irad Ortiz, Jr. continues his success. Recognizing the overlooked players and using them in the RIGHT SPOT at the RIGHT TIME means more winners at GOOD PRICES.
• Speed is absolutely a consideration over the Aqueduct Inner Dirt Track. But there is pace setting speed, pressing speed and tracking speed and they are all put to different advantage at different distances.

For instance, the flat mile and mile and seventy yard races start almost on top of the bend into the first turn. So it is often advantageous for a horse to be able to break alertly and get position. But what if the fastest early horse has drawn the outside post while a good tracking speed horse is snug against the rail? And suppose a trainer sends out a sprinter who has been getting the lead in one turn races by running half miles in :46 flat before tiring noticeably. Is the trainer simply running a distance race to build stamina before shortening him back up, or does the conditioner know that even if his horse runs a half in :48 flat he’ll have a good lead by the backstretch and go on to wire a field that he has made run too fast too early to keep up. They are all significant factors in finding VALUE PAYOFFS.

Here is an example of WHY WE LIKED OUR BEST BET SCORE on the Opening Day of the Inner Dirt Track (Dec. 12.)...

In this one mile second level allowance/optional 50K claimer the “Class” of the race SAILMATE was sent off as the 8-5 favorite and the “Quickest” horse in the race, sprinter SINAI was sent off as the second favorite. But neither the “Classiest” or “Quickest” had the type of speed or post position that would allow it to maximize it’s “tactical speed.” Those attributes belonged to the rail horse GROOMEDFORVICTORY, who not only figured to get the jump on the field heading the short yards into the first turn but was also in good form and last year had proven his two turn speed over the IDT surface with good early efforts vs better than he was facing in this race. GROOMEDFORVICTORY broke right on top and went wire-to-wire victory paying $10.00!
