All others' closes as 3-1 favorite in Pool 2; Eskendereya next at 5-1

ESKENDEREYA (Giant's Causeway) emerged as the solid individual choice to win the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 1, but the "All Others" betting interest remained the overall fans' choice as Pool 2 of Churchill Downs' 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) ended its three-run early Sunday evening.

Eskendererya, the dominant winner of the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park and one of trainer Todd Pletcher's record six KDFW betting interests, was a strong 5-1 choice among Pool 2's 23 individual horses. But the mutuel field -- betting interest No. 24 that included all three-year-olds other than the pool's 23 individual horses -- was the 3-1 overall choice when the pool closed Sunday evening at 6 p.m. (EST).

Other horses that received strong backing in the second of the year's three KDFW pools included the Bob Baffert-trained two-year-old champion LOOKIN AT LUCKY (Smart Strike), who closed at odds of 9-1, and DUBLIN (Afleet Alex), trained by four-time Derby winner D. Wayne Lukas, who was a 10-1 risk. Remsen (G2) winner BUDDY'S SAINT (Saint Liam) was next at 16-1.

Should he win the Kentucky Derby, Eskendereya will return $13.80 for a $2 "win" wager in Pool 2. The chestnut colt closed at 22-1 in February's Pool 1. Pletcher's six-pack of Pool 2 horses was completed by RULE (Roman Ruler) (20-1), SUPER SAVER (Maria's Mon) (24-1), DISCREETLY MINE (Mineshaft)(37-1), CONNEMARA (Giant's Causeway) (46-1) and AIKENITE (Yes It's True) (57-1).

Derby fans wagered $170,750 on Sunday to lift the Pool 2 final betting total to $355,853. That total includes $86,547 in exacta betting.

The third and final pool of Churchill Downs' 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is set for March 26-28.

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager provides fans with an opportunity to bet weeks in advance on contenders for the Kentucky Derby at odds that could be more attractive than those they would receive on the day of the race. All KDFW pools include exacta wagering. The Derby Future bet is a $2 minimum "win" wager. The minimum wager for a straight exacta, which requires the bettor to select the Kentucky Derby's top two finishers in the exact order of finish, is also $2, while the minimum for exacta boxes and wheels is $1. There are no scratches and no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Blind Luck rates as 4-1 favorite in Oaks future wager

She suffered a surprising defeat over the weekend, but the faith of racing fans in BLIND LUCK (Pollard's Vision) was unshaken as trainer Jerry Hollendforfer's filly was a start-to-finish favorite in Churchill Downs' three-day 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (KOFW) when the betting pool concluded Sunday evening.

Blind Luck finished a fast-closing third to CRISP (El Corredor) in Saturday's Santa Anita Oaks (G1) over the synthetic Pro-Ride surface at Santa Anita, but remained the 4-1 fans' choice in this year's only pool of the 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future bet.

But she had plenty of competition close on her heels from AMEN HALLELUJAH (Montbrook), winner of the Davona Dale (G2) and the KOFW's second choice at 6-1, and CHRISTINE DAAE (Giant's Causeway), who was the 7-1 third choice although she has yet to compete in a stakes race during her three-race career.  The mutuel field, which included all three-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual horses in Pool 2, also closed at 7-1.

A total of $61,901 was wagered in the 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. Winning payouts in the 2010 pool will be determined by the official order of finish in the 136th running of the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks (G1), America's premier race for three-year-old fillies, at Churchill Downs on April 30.

Despite her victory over Blind Luck in Saturday's Santa Anita Oaks, Crisp remained a 20-1 risk when wagering on the three-day pool concluded Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. (EST), 30 minutes after the close of Pool 2 of the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager. ALL DUE RESPECT (Value Plus), the runner-up in the Santa Anita Oaks, saw her odds drop from 66-1 at the beginning of Sunday's wagering to her final odds of 30-1.

SHE BE WILD (Offlee Wild), the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and the champion two-year-old filly of 2009, closed at 15-1 in the Oaks Future Pool. Other fillies that attracted solid support from racing fans across North America included NEGLIGEE (Northern Afleet) and BIOFUEL (Stormin Fever), both of whom stood at odds of 19-1 at the close of Sunday's betting. Frizette (G1) winner DEVIL MAY CARE (Malibu Moon) was a 21-1 risk and was followed by the D. Wayne Lukas-trained TIDAL POOL (Yankee Gentleman) at 23-1; Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up BEAUTICIAN (Dehere) at 25-1; the Bob Baffert-trained ALWAYS A PRINCESS (Leroidesanimaux [Brz]) at closing odds of 27-1; and JODY SLEW (Slew City Slew), winner of the Silverbulletday (G3), who was a 29-1 shot.

Churchill Downs' Kentucky Oaks Future Wager provides racing fans the opportunity to place an early pari-mutuel wager on contenders for the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks. The 1 1/8-mile contest will be run on the eve of the $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1). The Kentucky Oaks Future bet is a $2 minimum "win" wager. There are no scratches and no refunds in the Oaks Future Bet.
